In the 49ers most recent game, (Thursday night) against the San Diego Chargers on military night ,quarterback Colin Kaepernick again did not stand during the anthem. Later he did rise for God Bless America, and has vowed to donate the first million dollars he makes this year to organizations that fight against police brutality. Including donating his time to such groups.
Mr. Kaepernick whether you support him sitting DOWN during the national anthem or not, has earned our praise. Frankly, I would not have had the courage that he did, but in our great country, when you don’t agree with something, you have a right to voice that decision.
Kapernick is almost at the end of his playing days, and he could have kept his mouth shut, sat on the bench of a new team, and coasted to millions, as a back-up for at least the next 3-4 years. That is what I would have done, but Mr. Kaepernick is a man of tremendous conviction.
Instead he decided to take a stand, knowing very well the consequences – that he would probably be blackballed in the NFL, and it appears that is exactly what has happened to him. Here is what is being widely reported, for example in Bleacher Report:
“I don’t want him anywhere near my team,” one front office executive said. “He’s a traitor.”
“He has no respect for our country,” another exec said. “F— that guy.”
Each of the seven execs said he believes Kaepernick will never play in the NFL again if and when the 49ers cut the 28-year-old. Taking it a step further, one team official said he believes 90 to 95 percent of NFL front offices have blacklisted Kaepernick.
And on a personal note, there is also the issue that his biological mother put him up for adoption, and now had the nerve to criticize the child she gave up. I know a thing or two about not being raised by your mother. It is something that stays with you FOR LIFE. Its always right over your shoulder, haunting you. You try and deny, deny, that the issue bothers you, but its always there. This is the book I wrote about my own experience of not being raised by my mother. It’s titled “No Momma’s Boy.”
Kaepernick took a stand, and continues to do so. How about the rest of us?
