It was literally about 100 degrees June 14th in Columbia South Carolina, the day of the 2018 Cultural and Linguistic Competency Summit, but boy was it an outstanding time for all. Dominic Carter was the keynote speaker and received a standing ovation.  The other keynote was Rita Cameron Wedding. You can click here to see some of Dominic’s photos.  Mrs. Cameron Wedding is a published scholar and Professor of Race, Gender, and Social Class disparities. She is a professor of Women’s Studies and Ethnic Studies at Sacramento State University in California.

The event was held at the Spirit Communications Park which is where the minor league Columbia “Fireflies” baseball team plays, and Dominic was greatly impressed the moment he walked up to the amazing stadium which opened in 2016.  It was a great time for Dominic as well, because besides being in great, great company, he had his God-daughter present, Rochelle Wood, who lives in South Carolina.

There were about 500 people in attendance, and the event was also sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Mental Heath, and the South Carolina Joint Council on Children and Adolescents.  Dominic came with a few Clemson tigers tee-shirts, GO CLEMSON!!!!!  ONLY to find out that the area is South Carolina Gamecocks territory. GO GAMECOCKS.

Dominic in his remarks, covered topics like Child Abuse, Foster Care, Mental Illness, Child Sexual Abuse, and acknowledged all the professionals  present.  Dominic strongly believes they are American Heroes.
