One of the best parts of my career has always been meeting listeners, readers, and families face-to-face.
This Sunday, I’ll be spending the day in Astoria, Queens at the Astoria Summer Jam Community Fair, and I would love to meet you.

Event Information
Event: Astoria Summer Jam Community Fair
Date: Sunday
Time: Beginning at 10:00 AM
Location: I will be at Broadway between 46th Street and 47th Street, Astoria, Queens, New York
The fair stretches seven blocks along Broadway from Steinway Street to 47th Street and attracts families, community organizations, local businesses, and residents from throughout New York City.
What We’ll Be Doing
- Taking photographs with attendees
- Meeting listeners and readers
- Signing books
- Discussing community issues
- Talking about journalism, foster care, and overcoming adversity
As someone who spent part of my childhood in foster care before being raised by my grandmother in the Bronx, I never forget where I came from. Meeting people in communities throughout New York is one of the greatest blessings of my life.

Attendees will have an opportunity to learn more about my books, including:

You’ll also be able to learn about books written by members of my family, including works by my wife Marilyn and daughter Courtney Carter.

Throughout the summer, I’ll be visiting communities across the New York Tri-State area, meeting listeners, readers, families, foster parents, kinship caregivers, community leaders, and friends. I’ll be taking photos, signing books, sharing stories, and enjoying the opportunity to connect with people face-to-face.
